Our cultural & floral journeys are not formal, but they are also not super casual either. Expect a light-hearted, and relaxing atmosphere among like-minded people. Think of our trips as a long, extended weekend with your favorite people. Our trips are slow to medium paced...not hurried or rushed. We like to give everyone an opportunity to experience the culture, our surroundings, villages, markets, excursions, and new people at a pace that feels comfortable. We also like to give everyone time to relax and explore on their own if they wish. Daytime we have workshops, activities, and excursions...evenings after dinner, are for anything you wish, including walks, journaling, relaxation, hanging out alone or as a group.
No. Our journeys are a mix of both floral and cultural activities. We like to let attendees experience the full culture of our destination. For this reason, we strive to make our trips as authentic to the destination as possible. Our trip is also priced to reflect a mix of activities, whereas some other solely "Floral Retreats" are priced double of what ours is, and for less nights, under a weeks' journey. On past trips, all of our attendees have liked a mix and a more broadened itinerary, and we have maintained this approach to appeal to different skill levels and interests. Please DO expect to learn flower techniques and design as well though during our week. We will also survey attendees to see if they want more floral education included, as this can be arranged in the planning stages.
Cancellation: If you cannot travel for any reason, all payments will be forwarded to a future retreat/workshop within one year. After one year, all payments will be forfeited. If for any reason, Flowerlark needs to cancel the trip, all payments will be refunded within 45 days of receipt.
Travel Insurance: Travel Insurance is discretionary, but highly recommended. We encourage travel insurance to cover your costs in case of cancelled flights, illness while abroad/medical expenses, trip interruption, trip cancellation (if you cancel or if Flowerlark cancels.), etc.
We can book your travel insurance for you, and we use one of the most reputable companies in the industry; Travel Guard. The premium is based on your trip value in dollars. For instance, a 30 year old female traveling, and her trip is valued at $5,000 USD, the full premium is $162.20
Travel Insurance is well worth the cost. Please inform us if you would like us to add Travel Insurance.
Depending on the destination and accommodations, each trip will have a minimum number of attendees, and a maximum number of attendees. The room accommodations and the number of attendees allowed will be determined for each trip, and included in the trip description.
Flights: All Flights to and from our destination are the responsibility of the attendee, unless otherwise specified.
Ground Transportation in Country: Ground transportation is determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the country and destination.
Currency: Currency in most destinations is the Euro, unless otherwise specified in the trip description. All British Isle journeys accent the British Pound. They do not accept US Dollars! It is best to exchange some money before traveling. You may exchange money at your local bank or any AAA office. You can check the exchange rate here: www.xe.com You may also exchange money at the Airport, but this is the most expensive option.
In the small villages, there are NO places to exchange US Dollars, not even at a bank! (Trust me, we learned this the hard way!) When we go to Flea Markets and Farmers Markets they only accept cash. In the larger towns credit cards are accepted; usually VISA and Mastercard and very occasionally American Express. They do not accept Discover Card.
Another good option is to apply for the "Wise" Card. www.wise.com This is a new card that allows you to transfer, send, and spend money in any country worldwide! This card will automatically convert to the correct currency of the country you are in. It is completely legit, and safe.
Language: This depends entirely on our destination. Most countries, the population can speak English. The language will be listed in the trip description. In small villages, in France and Holland, some locals do not speak English. When we visit flea markets, we try to communicate in their language and be respectful of their culture. In our experience, people are always kind and accommodating, and they truly appreciate the effort.
